Karawang, Wartacana.com – Di antara rindangnya pepohonan dan udara lembap Karawang, berdiri kokoh Monumen Rawa Gede. Tugu itu tampak gagah dari luar, namun sunyi dari dalam. Hanya sedikit pengunjung yang datang, meskipun monumen tersebut dibuka sebagai destinasi wisata edukasi.
Besar kemungkinan tidak banyak orang yang memahami, di tempat itu pada 9 Desember 1947 silam, terjadi tragedi kejahatan hak asasi manusia. Sebanyak 431 warga sipil Rawagede tewas dibunuh tentara Belanda tanpa perlawanan. Semuanya laki-laki.
Karyadi (58 tahun), salah satu anak dari janda yang mengalami tragedi Rawagede, mengatakan bahwa Monumen Rawa Gede belum ada saat ia lahir. Sekitar tahun 1967, baru ada makam pahlawan di bagian belakang. Ketika itu kawasan pemakaman masih kecil.
Ketika masih kecil, Karyadi dan teman-temannya sering mengambil batu-batu dari tempat pemakaman untuk sekedar bermain, tanpa menyadari kesakralan tempat tersebut. “Kalau masih anak-anak kan suka… cari burung pakai batu. Suruh ngambilin batu,” kenangnya sambil tersenyum.
Monumen Rawa Gede resmi dibuka pada 9 Desember 1996. Warga asli Balongsari itu mengatakan kalau lokasi tersebut menyimpan sejarah yang penting bagi desanya dan bangsa ini.
Ia mengatakan, biasanya hanya pelajar yang datang ke Monumen Rawa Gede. “Itu pun dalam rangka kegiatan sekolah seperti doa bersama,” ujarnya.
Karyadi mengamati bahwa kunjungan itu sering kali tidak menyentuh makna yang lebih dalam dari sejarah yang terjadi di tempat itu. “Kalau pengunjung umum sendiri jarang datang,” katanya.
Karyadi juga menceritakan bahwa pada momen tertentu, seperti peringatan 17 Agustus atau 9 Desember, ada kegiatan upacara atau doa bersama yang melibatkan keluarga korban dan pihak sekolah. Kegiatan tersebut bentuk dorongan guru-guru atau tokoh yang bersimpati atas tragedi Rawa Gede.
Ia mengakui ada rasa bangga karena di desanya pernah lahir para pejuang yang diabadikan dalam monumen. “Waduh… dampak itu… antusias, merasa bangga lho. Merasa bangga,” tuturnya.
Ia lalu melanjutkan, “Karena… Mungkin di desa kami… Sampai ada… Ada pejuang… Bahkan dibikin monumen… Waduh… Kalau memang tadi bilang… Dampaknya gimana… Antusias sangat bahagia sekali.”
Sementara itu, salah satu pemerhati sejarah, Sukarman (74 tahun), menyebut bahwa perhatian pemerintah terhadap Monumen Rawa Gede masih minim. Ia menyinggung sebuah momen ketika Menteri Kebudayaan datang ke lokasi monumen, namun tidak disambut oleh satu pun pejabat daerah.
Menurut Sukarman, Monumen Rawa Gede lebih dari sekadar tugu, tetapi simbol perjuangan yang telah dibayar dengan darah. Sukarman mengatakan bahwa monumen tersebut memerlukan suara-suara untuk menjaga sejarah Rawa Gede agar tetap hidup.
“Tidak terkubur dalam senyap. Karena ketika sejarah dilupakan, arah masa depan pun bisa hilang. Dan perjuangan yang tidak dikenang, pada akhirnya akan mati dua kali,” katanya.
Tinggal Sedikit Tersisa, Janda Korban Tragedi Rawa Gede
Sukarman (74 tahun), yang ayahnya jadi salah satu korban pembantaian tentara Belanda, menceritakan kenangan kelam tersebut. Kepada Tim Penulis, Sukarman mengatakan, bahwa para istri kala itu harus menggali sendiri makam suaminya di depan rumah.

Kenangan Sukarman semakin kelam, setelah mengetahui bahwa ayahnya tewas ketika baru enam bulan menikah dengan ibunya, yang belakangan diketahui bernama Cawit. “Lalu ibu saya menikah kembali dengan Kadi Sukardi,” ujar Sukarman.
Saat ini, hampir semua janda korban Tragedi Rawa Gede telah tiada, termasuk Cawit, ibunda Sukarman, yang telah meninggal sejak lama. Sukarman mengatakan, ketika masih hidup ibunya pernah menerima dana kompensasi dari pemerintah Belanda sebesar 20.000 Euro atau setara dengan Rp240 juta pada tahun 2011 untuk tiap-tiap orang.
