Wartacana.com, Karawang – Memprihatinkan! Banyak anak-anak di Karawang memilih berhenti sekolah, demi menjadi manusia silver, agar bisa menafkahi perekonomian keluarganya. Mereka rela membunuh cita-citanya hanya untuk membantu orang tuanya mencari uang, dengan menyiksa tubuhnya.
Begitulah temuan Tim Ilmu Komunikasi, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, ketika melakukan peliputan di lapangan. Tidak hanya satu atau dua, tetapi banyak anak yang mengubah dirinya menjadi manusia silver.
Praktik anak-anak menjadi manusia silver ini banyak ditemukan di berbagai titik di Kabupaten Karawang, terutama di jalan Ronggowaluyo, Telukjambe Timur, Karawang. Mereka bergerombol lalu berpencar di beberapa sudut jalan. Apalagi ada yang datang bersama saudara kandung kakak dan adik. “Iya sama kakak, sama temen,” ungkap salah satu anak manusia silver berusia 13 tahun, Rabu malam (23/4/2025).
Setiap sore hingga malam, mereka mencari uang dengan mengemis kepada pengendara yang melintas. Anak-anak ini, yang rata-rata berusia 13 hingga 15 tahun, rela menahan rasa gatal akibat cairan cat silver yang menutupi tubuh mereka, termasuk bagian kepala.
Cairan yang mereka gunakan untuk melumuri badannya itu cat berwarna silver, dilansir detik.com/edu cairan ini mengandung bahan kimia berbahaya jika digunakan ditubuh. Terbukti ditemukan unsur logam berat tidak seharusnya dipakai di tubuh, mereka mendapatkan cairan ini beli secara langsung ditoko kimia, setelah mendapatkan uang hasil mengemis.
Keputusan mereka untuk meninggalkan bangku sekolah dan turun ke jalan diakui bukan karena paksaan orang tua, melainkan atas keinginan sendiri. Setidaknya lebih dari tiga anak telah teridentifikasi sering beraktivitas di lokasi tersebut. “Bantu ibu,” ujarnya kepada Tim Wartacana
Mereka memilih putus sekolah karena kondisi keluarga yang sulit dan Ibu hanya mencari botol bekas untuk bertahan hidup. Namun, karena telah lama berada di jalan, anak-anak ini tidak lagi mampu membedakan apakah alamiah mereka adalah kesedihan atau kebahagiaan.
Sayangnya, aktivitas mereka juga berdampak pada kenyamanan dan kenyamanan umum. Beberapa dari mereka bahkan meminta dengan cara yang memaksa.
“Jika mereka berada di jalanan dan melakukan aksi yang mengganggu lalu lintas atau percakapan umum, maka kami akan melakukan penertiban,” ujar Tata Soeparta, Kepala Seksi Operasi dan Pengendalian pada Satpol PP Kabupaten Karawang , Kamis pagi (22/5/2025).
Oleh karena itu, Satpol PP akan terus menertibkan para manusia silver, baik anak-anak maupun orang dewasa, yang dianggap mengganggu kenyamanan masyarakat. Tata juga mengimbau masyarakat untuk tidak memberikan uang atau makanan di jalanan, karena hal ini justru memperkuat alasan mereka tetap berada di sana. “Jika ingin membantu, salurkan melalui lembaga sosial resmi seperti rumah sedekah, rumah zakat, atau lembaga sosial pemerintah,” jelasnya.
Lebih lanjut, Tata juga mengingatkan para orang tua agar tidak menjadikan anak sebagai alat untuk mencari uang. “Biarkan mereka tumbuh dalam lingkungan yang aman, terlindungi, dan mendukung masa depan mereka,” ujarnya.
Mengatasi permasalahan ini, Dinas Sosial Kabupaten Karawang menegaskan bahwa kemiskinan tidak dapat dijadikan alasan untuk membenarkan tindakan orang tua yang membiarkan anaknya turun ke jalan. “Tidak bisa, apakah orang miskin itu memang harus seperti itu? Apakah tidak ada cara lain?” ujar Asep Riyadi, Kepala Rumah Singgah Dinas Sosial Kabupaten Karawang, Senin pagi (26/5/2025).
Menurut Asep, fenomena ini muncul bukan semata-mata karena faktor ekonomi, melainkan kurangnya rasa syukur dan kesadaran orang tua. Sebagian dari mereka sebenarnya memperoleh penghasilan yang cukup besar, yakni sekitar 200 hingga 300 ribu rupiah per hari.
“Kemiskinan tidak menjadi alasan seseorang dapat dibenarkan berada di jalanan, apalagi jika melibatkan eksploitasi anak-anak. Penghasilan mereka itu lumayan besar,” tambahnya.
